Ventricular fibrillation #bestcardiologistinperiyarnagar #stentbestdoctoeinperambur

Ventricular fibrillation (VFib or VF) is a life threatening condition where the ventricles of the heart quiver weakly instead of pumping blood causing immediate shock and collapse of the patient. This emergency is the leading cause of sudden cardiac death. Immediate treatment includes CPR and defibrillation (shocking the heart) to restore normal rhythm

Symptoms & Emergency Actions
  • Symptoms: Sudden collapse, loss of consciousness, and cessation of pulse. Prior symptoms may include chest pain, dizziness, nausea, or rapid heart rate.
  • Immediate Response: start CPR immediately, and use an automated external defibrillator (AED) if available
Causes & Risk Factors

  • Cardiomyopathy (damaged heart muscle).
  • Electrocution.
  • Severe electrolyte imbalances.
  • Drug toxicity.
  • Inherited disorders like Long QT syndrome or Brugada syndrome
Diagnosis & Treatment
  • Diagnosis: An electrocardiogram (ECG/EKG) will reveal chaotic electric activity.
  • Treatment: Emergency defibrillation is the primary treatment. Long-term management may include an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD), medications (anti-arrhythmics), or coronary procedures to improve blood flow
Prognosis
Without immediate treatment, VFib is fatal within minutes. Survival rates vary from roughly 17% outside the hospital to 46% when treated in a hospital setting, depending on prompt intervention
