Triple vessel disease (TVD) is a severe condition where all the three major coronary arteries supplying the heart gets blocked due to build up of plaque by more than 50%.
This severely restricts blood and oxygen flow, drastically increasing the risk of heart attacks and heart attacks
Core anatomy
Left Anterior Descending (LAD) artery: Supplies blood to the front of the heart.
Left Circumflex (LCx) artery: Supplies blood to the outer side and back of the heart.
Right Coronary Artery (RCA): Supplies blood to the bottom and back of the heart.
Common Symptoms
Because of the widespread lack of oxygen (myocardial ischemia), patients may experience
Angina: Chest tightness, pressure, or burning sensations, which can happen during activity or at rest.
Shortness of breath: Even during mild exertion or normal daily tasks.
Extreme fatigue and dizziness
DIAGNOSIS
Electrocardiogram (ECG): Records electrical activity.
Stress Test: Evaluates how the heart handles physical exertion.
Echocardiogram: Uses ultrasound to assess pumping function.
Coronary Angiography: The definitive imaging test that injects dye into the arteries to visualize exact blockage
Treatment & Management
Treatment aims to restore adequate blood flow to the heart muscle. Depending on the severity of the blockages and a patient's overall health, cardiologists may recommend
Medications: Including beta-blockers, blood thinners, and cholesterol-lowering drugs to manage blood pressure and reduce the heart's workload
Lifestyle Adjustments: Heart-healthy diets, regular exercise, smoking cessation, and strict management of underlying conditions like diabetes and high blood pressure
Revascularization Procedures:
Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI): Placement of stents to open narrowed arteries.
Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG): Open-heart surgery to redirect blood around the blocked arteries
